Biker Dad. One week down plenty of torture to go!

First week down and I am sure there is plenty of turture to go.

I have spent the week trying out my new bike (Definitely built for speed and not comfort) I have to say though, since doing last years Tri on a Mountain Bike, this is like riding on a Porsche.

I purchased the bike from Ribble, a trusted and well known online cycle company that has been around for quite a few years. The process was a little confusing to a novice like me and when I did call they tried to up sell me to a more expensive bike. That's fine, it is their job. They were very helpful though and talked me through frame sizes and gear combinations, things I had no clue about to be honest.

It was amusing that the seat stem was simply to long for me in the first place (I have short legs) even though I am 5' 7" so my little tippy toes just about touched the peddle (Yes I know, the irony is in the cuteness). That said I have had two outings on the bike and other than being held up by the traffic lights on the route I ride, all seems to be going well.

This week I managed two swims one of which was my personal best of 9.34 for 400 metres. Two runs, my best of which was 18 minutes for 2 1/2 K and two bike rides, difficult to time this as I am using a programme called Walk Run Jog on my iPhone. It's a good programme but it keeps running when I am stuck at the traffic lights, so I need to work out a better method of tracking the bike. I am sure I am ahead of last years personal best on the bike but it's difficult to be accurate.

I am fortunate to have a personal trainer from work who will be working with the Team and God bless her she wants me to do three of each discipline each week.

So in all, a good first week. Now to up the stakes and as my good friend Danny pointed out, focus on the other two disciplines, Nutrition and Mental Strength.

Here are the links for the Bike and the programme.

Have a great week Guys.

Biker Dad. Triathlon Time Trials

The Time Trials Are Over Let The Training Begin!

So I’m not breaking any world records, that was never the plan. As I mentioned in an earlier blog I stumbled across Triathlon by accident. A set of circumstance and I was entering my first one last year. I completed the Cycle Leg on a mountain bike, albeit a good one, but a mountain bike all the same.

So this year I have a great bike which I took out for the first time today (God my ass hurts) oh well no pain no gain, or so they say.

I have now completed all of my start of season time trials:

Run 2 ½ K 18 minutes
Swim 400mts 10:34
Cycle 10 K 30 minutes

Total time 58:30

Add on time for transitions and we are looking at a 1hr 15 minutes Super Sprint Triathlon.

Two goals for this year

Complete in under an hour
Come first in my age group

My training regime is to complete all three disciplines at least three times per week each one each of will be a time trial.
